A Short Biography on Justice Antonin Scalia

Justice Scalia is one of the most outspoken justices on the current Supreme Court. Since being appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States on September 26, 1986, Antonin Scalia has written more concurrent opinions than any other Justice. As of September 2010, Justice Scalia is the Senior Associate Justice, by merit of the fact that he is the longest serving member of the Court. Antonin Scalia was born in Trenton, New Jersey on March 11, 1936. He attended public grade school and Catholic high school in New York City after his family relocated. He went to Georgetown University for his undergraduate studies and obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from Harvard Law School. After graduation he was employed for six years at a Cleveland law firm, where if not for his desire to teach he might have become a partner. Instead, he left the firm to become a law school professor. During the early seventies, he served the Nixon and Ford administrations, working his way through several minor positions before eventually becoming an Assistant Attorney General. He taught at the University of Chicago during the Carter years, until President Ronal Reagan appointed Justice Scalia to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 1982. President Reagan tapped Justice Scalia in 1986 to fill the vacated seat on the Supreme Court after William Rehnquist was elevated to Chief Justice. Scalia was unanimously confirmed by the Senate, being one of only two members of the current Supreme Court to encounter no opposition.
